Does smoking cause gum disease?+
It’s a well-known risk factor rather than the single cause. Plaque and calculus are still what the treatment targets, while tobacco can affect how the gums react to them.
Why don’t my gums bleed if I have pockets?+
Smoking may reduce bleeding, so its absence can be falsely reassuring. That’s one reason depth readings and images are reviewed instead of relying on appearance.
Do vapes count, or just cigarettes?+
Mention them either way. Knowing exactly what you use gives the dentist fuller information, even though your own findings remain the main evidence.
Do I have to quit before treatment?+
Ask the dentist about your situation. Being a current smoker doesn’t by itself settle whether scaling and root planing is right for you; assessment does.
Can deep cleaning still work if I keep smoking?+
Treatment can still remove deposits from the roots, although tobacco can limit how well tissues respond. No result can be promised, and your reassessment shows how your gums actually did.
Will the cleaning remove tobacco stains from my teeth?+
That isn’t its purpose, since the work is aimed at root surfaces below the gums. Bring up visible staining separately so we can talk about what might apply.
Where does someone in East Kildonan begin with this?+
