What comes first: the laser or the diagnosis?+
Diagnosis always leads. A laser is one possible way to carry out treatment, so the dentist must determine what is happening before deciding whether it has a role.
When do I get to ask my questions?+
You can ask at any stage. There is a specific opportunity before treatment begins, when the plan, comfort measures and expected healing have been explained to you.
What happens right before the laser is used?+
You put on protective eyewear, the area is isolated if necessary, and the comfort measures selected for your procedure are provided.
What will I be told at the end of the procedure?+
Expect guidance on keeping the area clean, on food, on which symptoms deserve attention and on when you should return for follow-up.
Can the plan change partway through?+
Treatment may be paused or adjusted if you report discomfort. Ask your dentist beforehand how a change of approach would be handled for your particular procedure.
