Invisalign for Garden City Residents

You did orthodontics once, and now something has drifted. For Garden City residents in that position, Invisalign may be a way to realign selected teeth as an adult.

Orthodontics, round two

When Straight Teeth Don’t Stay Straight

It’s a familiar story. The braces came off years ago, the retainer slowly disappeared from your routine, and one day you notice a lower tooth has turned or a gap has reopened. Teeth can keep shifting throughout life, so you’ve done nothing unusual.

Clear aligners can be used to realign selected teeth after earlier treatment, a situation known as relapse. Whether they fit your case takes an examination, and for Garden City residents that happens at our McPhillips Street clinic in Winnipeg.

No lecture about retainers

Lost and forgotten retainers are common. We’d rather spend the time on where your teeth are today.

A fresh examination

Your mouth has changed since your teens, so your teeth, gums and bite are all reassessed.

A better ending this time

Retention gets discussed from the outset, so that holding your result is part of the plan.

Looking back, then ahead

Retreatment has two halves.

Moving teeth again is only part of it. Keeping them there is the half that many adults remember missing the first time.

Correcting the drift

Trays are planned digitally to guide selected teeth back toward alignment in a controlled sequence of small steps.

  • We first determine which teeth moved, and how far.
  • Existing crowns, fillings and bridges are noted in the planning.
  • Attachments are added when particular movements need more control.
  • Your bite is reviewed along with the appearance of your front teeth.

Holding on to the result

After active movement ends, retainers hold your teeth while the supporting tissues adapt, then help limit further shifting.

  • Wearing them as prescribed is a requirement and not an option.
  • Teeth may shift again whenever retainers fall out of use.
  • Raise any retainer worries before your treatment finishes.
  • Plan to keep your retainers going well into the future.

Not all relapse is suited to trays. If your teeth need movements that braces or a combined approach would handle more predictably, you’ll hear that from us.

Starting again

What’s different when you’re returning to treatment.

You may remember how orthodontics worked as a teenager. Here’s how the aligner process unfolds for an adult with a history of treatment.

Request your visit
  1. 01

    Share your orthodontic story

Tell us about your earlier treatment as well as you remember it, what you noticed changing, and whether a retainer is still in use.

  2. 02

    Reassess from scratch

An up-to-date examination of your teeth, gums, roots and bite, with photographs, scans and suitable X-rays, gives a current picture.

  3. 03

    Review the proposed plan

The dentist shows you which movements are planned and whether attachments, elastics or additional room may be involved.

  4. 04

    Begin, and keep checking

Your trays are fitted and explained, then later visits compare how your teeth are responding against the sequence.

Dig through the drawers

Your old treatment may still be useful.

You don’t have to have complete records or remember every detail from years ago. Anything you can find or recall simply fills in the background.

If your earlier treatment records are held elsewhere, ask us whether requesting them would be worthwhile for your assessment.

If you happen to have them

  • Your old retainer, even if it no longer fits.
  • Rough dates and the type of treatment you had.
  • Photos showing how your teeth looked when treatment ended.
  • Current medications, along with insurance or CDCP details.

An adult experience

It’s different the second time.

Being back in orthodontic treatment can feel strange if your memories of it involve high school. You can ask anything, and go at a pace that makes sense.

Old memories welcome

If earlier orthodontic work was uncomfortable or stressful for you, it’s worth telling us about it.

Clarity on what’s changed

Ask us how aligners differ from what you remember, from attachments to the way they’re removed.

Dental work on board

Point out crowns, bridges or other restorations you have so they can be discussed with you.

So this doesn’t happen again

Making your second result the lasting one.

No one can freeze teeth in place permanently. What you can do is adopt a retainer routine that fits your life and stay in touch about it.

01

A final check on progress

If some movements are still incomplete near the end of your series, updated records might be used for ordering refinement trays. This isn’t a sign that treatment has failed.

02

Retainers, properly explained

Moving into retainers should be planned, with clear instructions on when to wear them. Ask anything that wasn’t explained to you the first time around.

03

Noticing changes early

If a retainer starts feeling tight or teeth look different, mention it. A small change is easier to discuss sooner than after years have passed.

Helpful details about invisalign in Garden City.

Ask our team
Why did my teeth move after braces?

Teeth can continue to shift throughout life, particularly when retainers aren’t worn as prescribed. It’s a common situation, and an examination can show what has changed in your mouth.

Can aligners fix relapse from my teenage braces?

They can realign selected teeth that have moved since earlier treatment. Whether trays suit your particular case depends on the movements required, so an assessment comes first.

My old retainer no longer fits. What should I do with it?

Call the clinic and describe what’s happening, and bring the retainer along to your assessment so it can be looked at with your teeth.

Do crowns or fillings affect aligner treatment?

Tell us about any existing dental work so that it can be looked at during your examination. The dentist can then explain whether it has any bearing on your plan.

Will I have to wear a retainer again afterward?

You will. Retention is as necessary after aligners as after braces, because retreated teeth can drift again if the retainer schedule lapses.

Can Garden City residents book an assessment online?

You can send a request using this page, or phone (204) 338-3003. The clinic, at Unit 5, 2358 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, MB R2V 4J6, will respond to finalize your appointment.
