How do I know if my old filling needs replacing?+
Often you won’t without an examination. Fractures, open margins, decay around the material, or a restoration that no longer supports the tooth can all be reasons. We assess those signs and explain what we find.
My filling is decades old but feels fine. Should it come out?+
Age by itself doesn’t decide the matter. There is no fixed lifespan, so a sound restoration may simply be monitored at your regular examinations. Ask us how yours looks when you next visit.
Can I swap an old filling just because I dislike the look?+
You can raise it, and we’ll discuss it. Cosmetic preference alone has to be weighed against removing extra tooth structure, so ask what replacing it would involve for that particular tooth.
What if a replacement filling isn’t enough?+
A heavily restored or significantly weakened tooth may need more support than a direct filling provides. An inlay, onlay or crown might then be considered, depending on how much sound structure remains.
My filling fell out. Should I use the form?+
Call us at (204) 338-3003 rather than waiting on a form, particularly if the tooth hurts. Describe what happened and the clinic can advise you about the next step.
Do Garden City residents have to be existing patients to get a filling assessed?+
Ask us about becoming a patient by calling or sending a request. Every visit takes place at our McPhillips Street clinic, and details will be sorted out when the clinic replies to you.
