Questions before protecting a tooth.
Does getting a crown hurt?+
Local anesthetic is normally used during preparation. You may feel pressure or vibration. Temporary sensitivity or gum tenderness can occur afterward and should improve.
Why do I need a temporary crown?+
It protects the prepared tooth, maintains spacing and provides short-term function while the final crown is produced. Avoid sticky foods and follow cleaning instructions.
How long does a crown last?+
There is no fixed lifespan. Remaining tooth structure, bite, grinding, oral hygiene, material and new decay all affect longevity.
Can a crowned tooth still need a root canal?+
Yes. The nerve can become inflamed before or after crown placement because of deep decay, cracks, previous damage or other factors.
What if my new crown feels high?+
Contact the clinic. A bite that contacts too heavily should be checked and adjusted rather than waiting for the tooth to adapt.
