When your dental visit is also a trip

Cosmetic & Orthodontics for Manitoba Patients

Coming in from elsewhere in the province, you will care about how many return appointments are involved. Find out what each smile treatment tends to involve before you commit to one.

Planning from a distance

Think about the return trips, too.

For patients elsewhere in Manitoba, the treatment itself is only part of the decision. Our clinic is in Winnipeg, at Unit 5, 2358 McPhillips Street, and all care happens there, so it makes sense to understand the likely pattern of visits at the outset.

That pattern varies a great deal. Bonding is sculpted directly on the tooth, while porcelain veneers usually call for separate planning, preparation, fabrication and bonding stages. Aligners need their progress compared with the plan in person, and gum work includes a healing review. Raise your travel situation at the assessment so it can be factored in.

Treatment with fewer stages

Direct bonding and small enamel refinements are worked on at the chair, without a restoration being made elsewhere first.

Treatment with several stages

Porcelain veneers and Invisalign run as a sequence, so ask early how many trips your particular plan may need.

Some of it happens at home

Custom whitening trays and daily aligner wear rely on you following directions between appointments in Winnipeg.

Making the trip count

Prepare before you set out.

A little groundwork can make your assessment far more useful, particularly if coming back soon would be difficult.

  1. 01

    Phone ahead with your situation

Explain that you would be travelling and what you hope to change. This is also the moment to ask how long to set aside.

  2. 02

    Gather what you have

Your medical and dental history, medications and insurance details are all helpful. Ask whether recent X-rays or records from another dental office should come along too.

  3. 03

    Map out the visits together

Once options are clear, ask which steps must take place in the clinic, how they could be spaced, and what to do if something comes up back home.

Your questions, answered.

Helpful details about cosmetic & orthodontics in Manitoba.

Ask our team
Can I have whitening done in one trip?

In-office whitening is a concentrated appointment, and take-home trays spread progress over multiple applications. Which suits you depends on your starting colour and sensitivity, and your teeth and gums need checking first.

Do I have to come back often during Invisalign?

Progress has to be checked in the mouth because teeth respond biologically and may not track the digital plan exactly. Ask what schedule your case would need before deciding whether aligners are practical.

What if an aligner stops fitting once I am home?

Phone the clinic rather than jumping ahead to the next tray. Lost wear time, a damaged aligner or teeth that have fallen behind may each need their own correction.

Is there follow-up after gum contouring?

Yes. Closure of the tissue and plaque control are reviewed, and any sutures come out at that stage. Keep this in mind when planning, as healing should not be judged in the first few days.

Should I whiten before travelling in for veneers or bonding?

Speak with us first. A lighter overall shade is generally achieved ahead of restorative work, because restorative materials will not lighten later and need matching to a settled colour.

How do I book from outside Winnipeg?

Phoning (204) 338-3003 is often easiest, since timing can be discussed directly, though the form on this page also works. Either way, your time is firm only after the clinic confirms it.
