Cosmetic & Orthodontics for Inkster Gardens Residents

What can and cannot be undone

Ask how much of the tooth stays.

Enamel does not grow back. Reshaping removes a very small amount for good, and many veneers need some enamel taken away to create room. Once a tooth has been prepared that way, it will continue to need a restoration, even when the veneer is eventually replaced. Inkster Gardens residents who feel uneasy about this are asking exactly the question that belongs in the first conversation.

Other options ask less of the tooth. Bonding usually needs little or no enamel removal, and whitening alters colour rather than shape, though it is not free of sensitivity. Orthodontics moves the tooth instead of covering it, and that may preserve more structure than disguising a crooked one. Gum contouring changes soft tissue, and sometimes bone, so it carries its own considerations. Your assessment weighs what you want against how much each route would change.

Enamel is finite

Whatever is taken off stays off, so each planned reduction ought to have a reason you have heard and understood.

Minimal is still something

A light preparation can still be a lasting decision. Small does not automatically mean that it can be reversed.

Your questions come first

Ask exactly what would be removed, added or moved, before any treatment begins, for each option under discussion.

Before anything is altered

Understand the trade-offs before you agree.

An assessment does not change your teeth or commit you to anything. Here is how the discussion normally progresses.

  1. 01

Say what you hope to keep

Your request or call can note which change interests you and how you feel about altering healthy teeth.

  2. 02

Learn how much enamel you have

Teeth, gums and bite are examined, with your history reviewed too. Enamel availability often determines which of the options are realistic.

  3. 03

    Hear each option’s reduction

Go through what each treatment would remove or add, what future upkeep would look like, and estimated fees. No decision is needed that day.

A little clarity before your visit

Your questions, answered.

Helpful details about cosmetic & orthodontics in Inkster Gardens.

Ask our team
Which cosmetic option removes the least enamel?

Whitening removes none, and bonding often requires little or none. Reshaping takes a very small amount, while many veneers need somewhat more. Which of these answers your concern is another question, and an examination settles it.

Can veneers be taken off later if I change my mind?

A prepared tooth will continue to need a restoration, so removing a veneer does not return you to where you started. Ask about the proposed reduction well before agreeing to it.

Is whitening hard on enamel?

Whitening supervised by a dentist is planned around your oral health and the product’s instructions. Overusing gel or unapproved products can raise irritation and sensitivity, so stick to what has been prescribed.

Is bonding easier to reverse than veneers?

Bonding is usually repairable and often leaves the enamel largely untouched, which makes it a more modest commitment. It does need upkeep, though, since resin can chip, stain or wear.

Do aligners change the structure of my teeth?

Mostly they move teeth rather than alter them. Limited enamel reduction between teeth is sometimes planned to create room, and small attachments may be bonded on for control. Ask what your plan would include.

Will contouring gums be permanent?

Tissue can rebound if the anatomy underneath was not respected, which is why measurements come first. Bone may be adjusted in some cases, and that is a decision to discuss carefully.

Can someone in Inkster Gardens ask questions before deciding anything?

Yes. Phone (204) 338-3003 or complete the request form with what you would like to know. A visit would be at our Winnipeg clinic, and the clinic will contact you about a time.
